He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose Mae Prather and Claude Carnahan. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. James is survived by his former wife, Patricia Sparks, and his children, Marvin Edward (Sheila) Carnahan, James Robert (Patricia) Carnahan Jr., Verna Mae (David) McCulloch, Thomas Donovan (Mechelle) Carnahan, and Benjamin Carnahan, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Marine Corps. He was a car salesman, business and property manager, and later provided handyman services. His passion was music, and he played professionally and for fun his entire life. He could make music with anything you put in his hands and had stories about going onstage with an instrument he had barely even touched. He passed that drive and musical ability on to all of his children. James touched the lives of many people with his kindness and his ability to somehow make you feel better just for being you. He enjoyed being with people, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends, and if you ever met him, you were in that group. James was cherished by all and will truly be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post # 24.
